So you have a question about something you've heard or seen on TheRadioStorm.com? You've come to the right place. We will gather questions from our listeners and site visitors and post them here. Hopefully, the following items will answer any questions you have. If not, please feel free to contact us.
How does internet radio work?
Internet radio works very easily. You log onto a site and click on a link that will connect you to the Internet radio server, from this point, your computer will download the music file which usually comes in a streaming format, which your chosen media player can then play.
Streaming files mean that while you are listening to your Internet radio; your computer is able to download additional data from the Internet radio station. This means that you don’t have to download the entire file to first start listening to a radio program, you can receive transmissions that are live in nature (only a few second lag). Your computer does not save the entire Internet radio file, just a few seconds of it at a time so it does not take up lots of space.
How do I listen to TheRadioStorm.com
If you're familiar with the type of media players you have on your computer, click the name of the player and wait a few seconds for the stream to begin. If you're unsure of what player(s) you have, click on the "Listen" link at the top of any page on this site. This will launch an MP3 compatible version of our stream.
How much does the software that I need to listen cost?
It costs nothing -- it's free! Links to the most common media players are listed on every page of this website. Currently there are four major formats: Windows Media, Real, Quicktime and MP3. Each type of stream is different and needs a specific program to process the signal. Windows Media streams need the Windows Media Player, Real streams need Real Player, Quicktime needs the Quicktime player and MP3 streams need Winamp. In some cases, MP3 streams can be played by Real Player. There is not currently any widely available player which will play all four streams.
Do I need to pay you to listen to the station or to use this site?
Streaming TheRadioStorm.com is free! We would appreciate a donation if you like what you hear and are a regular listener. This helps us offset the cost of the audio server we use to bring the music to your computer.
Why does the audio sometimes break up or start and stop?
This can be caused by network congestion. It can also be caused by too many people trying to listen to us at the same time -- this station can serve audio to one thousand listeners. We'd love to think this is the problem, but more than likely not. It could also be caused by internet connection problems with your ISP, i.e. not enough bandwidth available for you.
Why am I having problems listening with my dial up internet connection?
While most Internet radio stations can stream programming to users with a dial up connection, TheRadioStorm.com requires a broadband Internet connection to receive our high quality transmission. We stream at CD quality, 128K stereo.
Why does Internet Explorer show "This page cannot be displayed" when I click on the listen links?
This is a problem with the way Internet Explorer handles some Windows Media streams. To solve it:
If using Internet Explorer 6, go to Tools -> Internet Options, click on the Advanced tab, and then un-check (remove the tick from beside) "Show friendly HTTP error messages".
If using Internet Explorer 7 or above, you will have to create a shortcut on your Desktop. To do this drag the "Live Feed" link and drop it on your Desktop. A shortcut icon will then appear. To listen to the stream, double-click the icon. Use this icon to listen to our stream again in the future.
